A conscious decision to listen

The body speaks, speaks loudly all the time, since birth. The body knows what is good or what is bad, what it needs or what it doesn’t need anymore. The body listens and reacts to one’s mind thus thoughts, emotions, reactions and in particular beliefs.  In general, and sadly, we grow up with the idea that our bodies and minds are separate systems and believe they function independently. We feed it according to other ideas, beliefs, or desired image instead of feeding it with what it actually needs.

If we separate an organism into its component parts it will no longer function. Each piece is connected with all the rest and has a role to play, small or big. If one part is malfunctioning, it will automatically affect the whole. If the mind is experiencing stress for example, the body will instantly react and be affected by it.

A method to enhance one’s general well-being is intuitive eating. Intuitive eating is a way of eating that has nothing to do with diets or meal plans but more about getting back to one’s roots and learning to trust and listen to the body again. Allowing oneself to become aware of the positive and nurturing opportunities that are available through food selection and preparation and in the same time by respecting the own inner wisdom while breaking the cycle of addictions and chronic dieting. Intuitive eating is also a way to fully connect with the body using all the senses in choosing foods and drinks that is both satisfying and nourishing. 

The body is always saying what it needs if one really listens to it, without categorizing foods as “good” or “bad”.  One can eat anything without feeling guilty and consciously restore a healthy balance in the body. It's absolutely a personal choice. Healthy eating means being conscious of one’s habits, changing or eliminating what is affecting the body and eating a variety of foods that provide the nutrients one needs to maintain the health, feels good and provides energy. These nutrients include protein, carbohydrates, fat, water, vitamins, and minerals.
